<image:title>Our Wines - Austria - Josef & Philipp Brundl Mayer</image:title>
<image:caption>Grafenegg, Kremstal Austria The conflict between father and son winemaking teams could easily fill volumes – Josef & Philipp of the Bründlmayer family would not feature in them. Although Philipp has taken charge over the family’s estate, his father still plays a vital role in it. This comes as no surprise, since he knows every single vine in their 52 vineyards. A lot of them he planted himself, others he nursed back to health having identified the site fit his philosophy: namely to vinify terroir-shaped wines which tell about their origin and represent their variety. From humble beginnings, but a clear vision in 1980, Josef established 18 hectares of vineyards, which Phillip now manages with pride. Their holdings include some of the finest sites in the Krems Valley: Moosburgerin, Gebling, Tiefenthal, Vordernberg & Steingraben, which are synonymous with dense and substantial but also vibrant and structured Gruner Veltliner and Riesling. Philipp applies minimal intervention to the fruits path from vine to bottle; There are no insecticides, herbicides or chemical fertilizers used. Vineyard work is done manually. The grapes are carefully selected and harvested by hand. Every single vineyard is vinified separately in order to mirror the terroir and its differences as precisely as possible. www.philipp-bruendlmayer.at</image:caption>

<image:caption>Rust, Burgenland Austria Joining forces: Markus Fischl, Martin Kern and Franz Raith who after having worked in wine business nationally and internationally decided to return to their roots and apply the essence of their knowledge at home. Highest quality grapes from the best vineyards in Rust are the basis to produce intensive and authentic wines. Starting the company in 2010, the production increased from 3,000 bottles in the first year to almost 30,000 in 2015. The red varieties Blaufränkisch, Syrah and Zweigelt count for about 2/3 of the production, the white varieties Chardonnay and Weißburgunder for 1/3. But what is CEEL? CEEL is the first mention of Rust in 1317! Tradition and innovation belong together. <image:title>Our Wines - Austria - Peter Schweiger</image:title>
<image:caption>Zobing, Kamptal Austria Weingut Peter Schweiger is a small, family-owned producer based in the Kamptal region, which along with the Kremstal and Wachau regions is home to Austria’s most famous and highly regarded dry wines. Peter’s eighteen hectares of vineyards are planted to Grüner Veltliner, Riesling and Zweigelt, and are farmed sustainably, by hand. The entry-point Grüner is an accessible introduction to the joys of the variety: classic spicy, mineral flavours tempered by some upfront stone fruit character, and offered at a remarkable price for a Kamptal wine! The Zobinger Heiligenstein comes from the famous “Holy Rock” - Heiligenstein - a unique geological formation dating to the Permian period some 250 to 270 million years ago, comprising an extrusion of desert sandstone with volcanic and carboniferous conglomerates this lends to a more savoury, serious style, with extra layers of spice and concentration, this is impressive stuff. The Terrassen Riesling comes from the celebrated terraces for which Kamptal is famous, but the soil is dominated by slate instead of loess. It combines the typical citrus “cut” of the variety with that unmistakable Austrian ripeness and minerality. A signature Austrian red grape, Zweigelt gives an amazingly lively, refreshing, juicy wine that is easier tasted than described. Think somewhere between top Côtes-du-Rhône and cru Beaujolais, but with more depth and “gloss”. It’s winningly delicious, and benefits from being served slightly chilled. www.schwieger-wein.at</image:caption>

<image:caption>Lujan de Cuyo, Mendoza Argentina The Arizu family are pioneers in Mendoza and the sub region of Lujan de Cuyo. They have produced wines under the Luigi Bosca label for more than a century. In the late 80’s with iconic heritage vineyards, the oldest in the region, they saw the opportunity to create an ultra premium boutique label with limited production from only the best fruit from their two iconic Mendoza vineyards. The San Alberto and Viña Alicia vineyards are both located in Luján de Cuyo. The location, soil type and climate place these lands “among the most coveted in the world”. A true continental climate; dry, with an immense day/night (diurnal) temperature difference and the scarce rainfalls (180 mm, annual average) add up to the ideal conditions for vine growing. The soils are loamy/silty alluvial gravels and water for irrigation comes exclusively from the snow melt in the high mountains of Los Andes mountain range via a unique channel irrigation system. The Arizu family were instrumental in the recognition of Lujan de Cuyo as Argentina’s first Controlled Denomination of Origin in 1989. www.vinaalicia.com</image:caption>

      <image:title>Our Wines - Argentina - Accuro</image:title>
<image:caption>Uco Valley, Mendoza Argentina Accuro produce ultra premium Malbec, Malbec Cabernet blends and Torrontes from fruit sourced from their high altitude vineyards in the Uco Valley, Mendoza and Cafayate Valley, Salta. The wine business is collaboration between Carlos Pulenta, his son in-law Fernando Podesta and senior winemaker at Vistalba, Alejandros Canovas. These are unique wines, the combination of extreme altitude of the sites - 1200m and 1750m respectively for Uco and Cafayate valleys - a soil profile of low fertility glacial and alluvial wash from the Andean Cordillera, scarce rainfall, but well timed spring melt and enormous diurnal temperature difference ensure low yielding fruit of intense flavour, character and physiological ripeness. The resulting wines exhibit fantastic balance and the reds display a depth and intensity of colour that can only be attributed to their unique Andean derived terroir. The entire end of the Vistalba underground barrel room is glazed exposing the immense paleo- alluvial profile. River rounded gravel, cobbles and boulders in a matrix of loamy sand extend from the surface to six metres depth and beyond. The vine roots push to amazing depths in these gravels chasing the melt waters as they recede into the profile after each thaw. The result; plenty of soil moisture at fruit set then a gradual struggle for these vines through to harvest ensuring intense flavours and low yields. www.accurowines.com.ar</image:caption>

Situated at the base of the magnificent Tupungato (6,800m) on a colluvial fan, the exceptional soil profile of alluvial gravels suspended in sand/loam matrix with a relatively high proportion of silt combines with elevation, high sunshine hours and extremely low rainfall and results in wines of great power and fruit intensity whilst retaining sensational freshness. www.qaramy.com</image:caption>

We’d had so much fun working with friend and artist Hannah Fox on our Merri reserve wine that we decided to develop an entirely new collection - merrifolk. Hannah has painted original artworks for us that express through palette and texture the personality of the three new wines that we have crafted. The wines themselves inspired by local landmarks much appreciated by many in our community. Community has a vibe and each of these buildings or businesses have a history not only in their bones but via the people that move through them that has made our local neighbourhood such a vibrant and happy place for us. We have crafted these wines with a very natural approach and they each have lively personalities that will pair perfectly with hearty conversation and fun!</image:caption>

Located on the western side of the Barossa Valley’s sub-region of Marananga and comprising 8 blocks, each with unique soil profiles all of which contribute to the distinctive composition of the grapes. Tom is passionate about “curating” the grapes from each block so that they clearly speak of the differing soils, rootstock and vine age. The end goal is to make wines that reflect their site through minimal handling and intervention. Tom truly believes that wines are made in the vineyard, so fruit is hand harvested, wild fermented and basket pressed into French oak with no fining or filtration creating dark, flavoursome and juicy wines with a smooth and balanced finish. www.curatorwineco.com.au</image:caption>

      <image:title>Our Wines - Spain - Dominio Romano</image:title>
<image:caption>Ribera Del Duero, Spain Cusiné Family’s constant commitment to make the finest wines in some of the most special wine regions brought them to start a new and exciting project in Ribera del Duero. In 2005, they created the Dominio Romano Winery, applying the guidelines set by the heritage of the family, working the land in Penedès Wine Regions since 1790. In order to stay true to their traditional roots, they selected vines that reflect the essence of Ribera del Duero: old Tinto Fino vines spread in different zones of the denomination, trained in bushes, non-irrigated and cultivated organically. The work in the cellar has a clear purpose: to transmit the character of the autochthonous grape Tinto Fino, benefiting from the best terroirs of the region and at the same time respecting the tradition and the environment. In the winery they also attempt to break the rules, employing techniques such as pre-fermentation pellicular maceration or the ageing in 400l oak barrels and in clay amphorae. Innovative and tradition go hand in hand in Dominio Romano. In 2020 their wine Dominio Romano 2015 was selected by Wine & Spirits Magazine as the one of Year’s Best Ribera del Duero reds. www.dominioromano.com</image:caption>

      <image:title>Our Wines - Spain - Parajes del Valle</image:title>
<image:caption>Jumilla D.O.P, Spain Parajes del Valle have traditional “Terraje” vineyards in Jumilla and Mancheula between Albacete and Murcia in the South East of the Iberian Peninsula. These regions are some of the oldest traditional wine growing areas in Spain. Traditional customs and wine growing techniques have been preserved for centuries. Winemaker, Maria Jover is steadfast in her philosophy to reinterpret each vintage of Monastrell and Macabeo faithfully by farming organically and adhering to traditional winemaking practices with minimal inputs to achieve the highest level of fruit purity. The terroir is harsh; nestled close to the mountains the high altitude vineyards (700 – 1000m asl) are subjected to an extreme continental climate of freezing Winters and hot dry Summers. Soils are sandy calcareous loams and rainfall is scarce, falling mainly in early Spring and Autumn. Vines are traditional bush with low planting densities of 1,000 – 1,500 vines per hectare and yields are low. “Parajes del Valle - A place where you will find special wines, original, created with care. Unique, because the vines from which they are born are also unique. Vines that know how to overcome hard times, and have come out strengthened over the years. The way of making wine in this winery has a clear inspiration: respect for our environment. We know that only by taking care of the biodiversity of these lands, they will give us their best fruit. That is why we make organic wines: because we love the environment, and what one loves is not mistreated.” parajesdelvalle.es</image:caption>

<image:caption>Penedes Catalonia, Spain Parés Baltà is a traditional family owned winery from the Penedes region of Catalonia. First established in 1790 Parés Baltà produce organic wines from 5 biodynamic estates, situated around the winery and in the mountains of Penedès. The altitude varies from 170 to 750m and offers a diverse mixture of soils and microclimates. That gives a special personality to their wines by bringing the essence of the Mediterranean ecosystem to the grapes. The wines are crafted by sister in laws Maria Elena Jimenez and Marta Casas who ensure that each wine has its own personality while respecting its varietal character and origin. For some wines, they have returned to the past and used some traditional methods of vinification which have been almost forgotten in modern winemaking. In the 2000’s they expanded their operations purchasing premium vineyards in both Priorat and Ribera del Duero. All wines are certified organic and vineyards are biodynamic. www.paresbalta.com</image:caption>

      <image:title>Our Wines - Germany - Frey</image:title>
<image:caption>Rheinhessen, Germany Frey is located in the heart of the village Ober-Flörsheim. It is the highest elevated municipality in southwestern Rheinhessen. The roots of grapegrowing in the family go back into the 18th century and they currently grow grapevines on 23 ha and produce about 15.000 cases per year. Philipp and Christopher Frey, the youngest generation of the family, and their father Stefan are now in charge of operations, beginning from the vineyard right through to bottling. The winery-owned vineyards are spread over 20km in north south direction. Between Biebelnheim in the north an Ober- Flörsheim in the south, the vines grow on various soils and different microclimates. Massive limestone rocks deposited in the tertiary, provide the basis of the terroir. The unique loam/clay limestone soils and relatively arid climate produce stunningly mineral Rieslings and creamy and delicate Pinot Noir. Smaller plantings of Bordeaux varieties grow on the adjoining gravely loess soils. Since 2013, the grapegrowing follows the EU-guidelines for organic viticulture. The focus is on selective, fully ripe handpicking and gentle transport and pressing of the grapes. Natural fermentation, initiated by yeast from the vineyard and aging in larger format oak barrels, barriques and stainless steel ensure an immense depth of character to the wines. The fully ripe aroma and the aged style are the incomparable signature of the Frey wines. www.frey-wines.com</image:caption>

<image:caption>Chignin, Savoie France Brothers Didier and Denis Berthollier thrive on the challenge of working the steep slopes of Chignin on Southern flanks the Bauges Massif. Focussing on local varieties Bergeron (Roussanne) and Jacquere, with lesser plantings of Mondeuse, Gamay and Pinot Noir, the vineyard comprises 11 hectares of vertiginous blocks planted on the South facing slopes that attain up to a 55% incline at their steepest. A thin veneer of glacial tillite, exposed bedrock and limestone colluvium have for centuries provided a perfect substrate to ripen fruit of great purity and finesse. With the steepness of the terroir, all work in the vineyard is exclusively by hand. The soils are tended according to organic and selected biodynamic principals, essentially practising the same techniques that their grandfather used at the beginning of the 20th century. Utilising limited inputs, indigenous yeast and extended maturation, the brother’s priority is to produce mountain wines that reflect the terroir as authentically as possible. www.chignin.com</image:caption>

Bruno took over the family estate in Fleurie (Grille Midi) in 1991 from his father George, who had in turn taken the reigns from Gradnfather Marius and before that great grand father Louis. In 2005 Bruno set about restructuring and implementing sustainable practices in order to elevate the quality while ensuring the health of the environment. He also started an expansion plan that involved the purchase of vineyards in Morgon (Les Charmes) and Julienas (Les Fouillouses). His restructure culminated in the decision to convert all the vineyards (now comprising 40 acres) to full organic certification in 2018. In 2020 Maud Matray partnered with her father after 5 years working as a civil engineer and then retraining in viticulture and oenology. Since coming on board Maud has been the driving force behind the conversion to organics (AB – Agriculture Biologique) and bringing the Matray et Filles label to being. So, why the “S” on Filles in the estate name? Because the family is a big one and the rest is best told with a glass in hand! www.matrayetfilles.com</image:caption>
